Tokyo University of the Arts was established in May 1949 as a consequence of the National School Establishment Law combining Tokyo Fine Arts School (now the Faculty of Fine Arts) and Tokyo Music School (Act No. 150 of 1949). (At the moment, it’s the Faculty of Music). Ueno Park in Taito-ku, Toride City in Ibaraki Prefecture, Yokohama City in Kanagawa Prefecture, and Senju in Adachi-ku are the four campuses of Tokyo University of the Arts, with Ueno Park hosting the majority of departments and facilities. The Faculty of Fine Arts’ Department of Inter-Media Art, as well as a component of the Graduate School of Fine Arts, are located on the Toride Campus.
The Yokohama Campus is home to the Graduate School of Film and New Media, while the Senju Campus is home to the Faculty of Music’s Department of Musical Creativity and the Environment, the Graduate School of Music’s Department of Musicology and Music Studies, and the Graduate School of Global Arts.
