“PAs are health care professionals who are licensed or, in the case of federal employees, accredited to practice medicine in conjunction with physicians. PAs are certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and/or have completed a recognized PA educational programme. As a member of a healthcare team, PAs deliver patient-centered medical care as part of the physician-PA partnership. Within their area of practice, PAs have specific levels of autonomy and make autonomous medical decisions.” – House of Delegates of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), 2014.
